Sacred Heart to Stay Open

Congratulations and best wishes to the Parishioners of Sacred Heart Parish.

The Watertown Citizens for Common Sense Government are elated at the recent news that Sacred Heart Parish will be staying open. It only goes to show you that when people of good will come together for the right cause, with the right motives and use the appropriate approach, great things can happen.

We also want to extend our warmest heartfelt words of encouragement to a sister civic group, the East Watertown Betterment Association lead by Ms. Angeline Kounelis.

Were it not for Angie’s perseverance, dedication, and love for her community, the result may have been different.

Angie spearheaded the effort by writing letters, attending meetings, making phone calls, and keeping the issue front and center. In short she was a one-woman army! The irony of it is, she isn’t even a Parishioner. Angie is proud member of the Greek Orthodox faith. Not only did she almost single handedly save Sacred Heart Parish, but also brought new meaning to interfaith action.

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention my friend and former colleague Fr. Joe Curran. He proved to be a good steward and an able Shepard during this trying time. Under his Pastoral leadership, the parishioners never lost sight of what they were fighting for, why they were fighting, and how as faithful Catholics they should and could humbly and respectfully fight for their rights.

On behalf of all our members especially those who attend Sacred Heart Parish we thank everyone who "pitched in" to make this joyous outcome possible.
